EventCAT Provides Simultaneous AI Interpretation Subtitles for an AI Film Making Workshop Directed by Dave Clark at Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival

The 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), which was held in the Bucheon City area from July 4 to 14, 2024, is an innovative event combining AI technology and film. For the first time this year, an AI film production division was established, and the BIFAN+ AI Film Making Workshop and AI International Conference were held, which attracted great attention. This film festival is one of the largest genre film festivals in Asia and is one of Korea's top 3 film festivals, along with the Busan International Film Festival and the Jeonju International Film Festival.

In particular, the 'AI Film Making Workshop', which focuses on film production technology using generative AI, initially recruited 30 participants, but due to high demand with 600 applicants—more than 20 times the capacity—the workshop was expanded to 60 participants. EventCAT removed language barriers through real-time interpretation of subtitles and enabled participants to freely exchange innovative ideas about AI and filmmaking.

Workshop participants expressed their satisfaction, saying, “Without subtitles, I wouldn't have understood even half of today's content,” and “There was a lot of jargon, but thanks to live captions, I was able to easily follow the content along with the lecture materials.” AI-interpreted subtitles provided participants with an opportunity to better understand important information and played a key role in helping them become more immersed.
